Course Information

Chem 108 is  one credit course that students take concurrently with Chem 110. It was designed as a means of providing extra help and support for students who may be at risk for failing or not achieving the required C in Chem 110 .

This class is meant

  • for students who had difficulty in high school chemistry

  • for students who took high school chemistry a while ago and have forgotten most of it

  • for students who did not do well on the Chemistry pre-quiz offered at the beginning of the semester

  • for students who just want extra help to make sure they stay on track in Chem 110

PURPOSE OF CHEM 108: to facilitate success in Chem 110 for all students: we want EVERYONE to pass Chem 110. This is done in a number of ways.

Skill Building: Through practice problems, students are encouraged to build and strengthen basic skills needed to be successful in Chem 110.

Getting Ahead: Many Chem 108 assignments are designed to help students keep up with or even be ahead in their Chem 110 studies rather than always catching up. The assigned Lecture Worksheets and weekly homework problems are two specific ways in which this is done.

Active and Collaborative Learning: Students are encouraged to work together in class to solve problems and to develop problem solving skills.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

All students registered for CHEM 108 must be taking CHEM 110 concurrently. This is required because assignments in class will be made in conjunction with the CHEM 110 lecture. For example, Lecture Worksheets are directly related to the reading assignment for each CHEM 110 lecture.

NOTE: You cannot register for this course AFTER the official drop/add period.  However, you are welcome to take advantage of any of the resources developed for this course. For more information, see the Chem 108 home page and/or contact the instructor Dr. Mary J. Bojan.
