Basic Skills Tests Deadlines

A molecule of SF6

The table below gives a list of the  Basic Skill Tests on the University Computers. When taking the computer tests, a periodic table and a calculator may be used.

When taking the computer Skill Check Tests, a periodic table may be used for all Skill Checks and you may use a calculator for Skill Check 7 (Concentration Dilution).

The Skill Checks can be used any time to provide practice in the Basic Skills that will be covered on the Chem 110 tests. Even after you have received 100% on a test you may continue to take the test for more practice and you will not jeopardize your grade, even if you score lower on a subsequent test.

All Skill Check Tests must be completed by Dec. 10 to receive credit. You need to score 100% on a computer-based test to get credit.

Bonus points can be earned by passing a test by the early deadline given in the table below. It is therefore possible to earn as much as 2 course points of extra credit by passing these tests EARLY!

While all of the Basic Skills are necessary for success in Chemistry, each category of Basic Skills is emphasized more heavily on one or more of the Chem 110 exams. The Chem 110 exam that will emphasize the material from a given Basic Skill is indicated in the table below.

Instructions on how to take Basic Skill Tests using the Web version are on a separate page (available on the Chem110 Web site). You will need your PSU access account to take these tests.

You may take these quizzes as many times as you like (with a limit of 8 requests per day), but in order to get credit for the Basic Skills Tests, you must get 100%

Each test will have somewhere between 5 and 9 questions and should take about 15  to 30 minutes to complete.

You need to score 100% on a computer-based test to get credit.

NOTE: Each DAY starts and ends at MIDNIGHT. The time of the attempt is the TIME of FINAL submission (not the time you begin the quiz), so if you start a quiz at 11:30pm on Dec. 5 but finish and submit the quiz after midnight it will not be counted. This will only matter if you submit a quiz after  midnight on the completion date.
