How to determine your grade: Fall

The grade-u-lator is a spread sheet (you need Excel in order to run this) that you can use to figure out what score you need to earn to get the grade you desire in Chem 110. The first page of the workbook can be used now to estimate the grades you need on the last two exams. The second page of the workbook can be used after you have taken the third exam to estimate the grade you will need to get on the final.

If you do not like to use spreadsheets, you can do the same calculation using the grade worksheet however, this is set up to be used after exam 3.

Before you start be sure to compile the following information:

Your midterm exam scores (percentage)
Your total quiz score (sum of your quizzes so far, but not greater than 100).
The number of homework points you have earned (the sum of your homework points earned so far but not greater than 100).
The number of Basic Skill Tests where you have already earned 100%.
The number of Basic Skills where you earned 100% by the early (bonus) deadline.

**You may be able to get your quiz and homework scores from your TA. If you do not already have 100 quiz points or 100 homework points, you will need to estimate your final quiz and homework scores.

Enter the numbers you earned so far and the spreadsheet will do the rest. The determinations at the bottom are based on the cutoffs given in the Chem 110 syllabus. The cutoffs are not likely to change this semester so the result will be a good estimate of the percentage you will need to earn on the final exam.

If the percentage you need to get the grade you want is about the same or less than the grades you have already earned this semester, you have a good chance of earning the grade you want.
If the percentage you need to get the grade you want is significantly different from (and HIGHER than) grades you have earned so far in this course, you must do SOMETHING DIFFERENT in your studying if you hope to see improvement. See your lecturer immediately if you would like suggestions on how to improve.
