Quizzes Homework Basic Skills

QUIZZES

Quizzes will be given during recitations to help you assess your mastery of the course material. Each quiz will consist of two parts:  (1) a problem selected from the homework assignment; and (2) a new question similar to the assigned material. 

There will be a total of 14 quizzes that will have questions based on recent homework assignments.

  • Each quiz will be worth 10 points totaling 140 possible quiz points.

  • If you accumulate a total of 100 or more quiz points you will earn a full 16 course points for quizzes.

  • A total of 80 quiz points would result in (80/100)x16=12.8 course points for quizzes.

  • No extra credit results from accumulating more than 100 quiz points. 

  • Since you have the opportunity to earn more quiz points than you need there will be no make-up quizzes except under very special circumstances and with the permission of your lecturer.

 

HOMEWORK:  Homework assignments are given in the course syllabus. If you have questions about the homework you can raise them in your recitation class, seek help in the Resource Room (see below), or ask the instructor.  Satisfactory performance in this course requires that you regularly complete and understand the assigned problems.

All homework must be done neatly and completely. Two randomly selected homework  problems will be collected immediately before the quiz at the end of the recitation.

These problems will be graded by the TAs and returned as soon as possible.

  • Each homework assignment will be worth 10 points.

  • 14 assignments will be collected (28 problems).

  • Your homework score will be equal to the sum of your total homework points. (140 homework points are available.)

  • Any points earned above 100 will not be counted toward the total.

  • Any fewer number of homework points will be prorated to course points. A total of 70 homework points would scale to (70/100) of 16 or 11.2 course points.

  • NO LATE HOMEWORK WILL BE ACCEPTED.

  • There will be no opportunities to make up for missed assignments.

To get credit for the homework assignment students must

  •               - show all their work

  •               - hand in a full page (no partial pages will be accepted)

  •               - student name must be prominently at the top of each page

  •               - TA name and section number must be at the top of each page

If you have questions about the homework, you can raise them during recitations, or visit our TAs during their office hours  in the Resource Room (211 Whitmore).
