What should I do if I missed the first lecture or two? (on Mon. and Weds Jan. 14 and Jan.16)?

In the first lecture, course information was explained. By accessing your lecturer's notes, you can get some idea of what you missed, but the lecture notes are not complete. Talk with your recitation TA as soon as possible to make sure you are caught up.

Prior to the start of class, students were invited to take a pre-quiz in order to assess their readiness for this course. The deadline for taking the pre-quiz is Weds. Jan. 16 (midnight). When you take the pre-quiz you will be given immediate feedback about your readiness for Chem 110. If you have not already taken it please do so right away. Instructions for taking the pre-quiz are available at this link.

If you missed the pre-quiz (if the deadline of Jan. 16 is past) be sure to print out the following document:  Background This document lists the expectations we have for someone taking this course. Please read this through and if you think are not sufficiently prepared for this class you should contact the instructor right away to explore your options. If you have taken High School Chemistry but it was not a recent experience and you feel you may need extra help in this course, consider taking Chem 108. Information about Chem 108 is given below and at the Chem 108 Course Web page.

To get caught up on the information you missed in recitation:

1. Make sure you have the Chem 110 textbook which is Chemistry, The Central Science, by Brown, LeMay, and Bursten, 10th Edition, Prentice-Hall, 2005.

2. Purchase a copy of the Spring 2008 Chem 110 Student Packet available at the Penn State Bookstore on campus. The course syllabus and General Information are given at the front of the packet.

(If the bookstore is temporarily out of Student Packets, be sure to order one, but in the meantime, print out and read the Syllabus and General Information available on this website. Also,  the Supplemental Problems are available in pdf form. You can  print out the first set of Supplemental Problems.

3. Read the syllabus and General Information sheets carefully.  A short description of some of the things you should pay attention to is given in the Workings of Chem 110.   If you have any questions ask your TA or Lecturer.

The second lecture will be on Wednesday, Jan. 16th  in 108 Forum.

Be sure to attend the next Chem 110 lecture. Lectures are on MWF  in 108 Forum.

4. Be prepared for the next recitation by doing the homework assigned for Jan. 14-18.
The second  Chem 110 Recitation will meet on Wednesday or Thursday (Jan. 23 or 24).   There will be a quiz given in that recitation and homework will be collected. (See quiz and homework policies for details.)
