Spring 2008
Chem 112 Unit Quizzes

·     These quizzes will count for 15% of your Chem 112 grade (30 course points).

·     You will have access to these quizzes for 3 days and you will only be allowed to submit the quiz three times.

·     Your grade for the quiz will be the highest of your three attempts, even if it is your first attempt.

There will be a total of 13 Unit Quizzes each worth 10 points. These quizzes may only be taken 3 times over the period the tests are available (typically 3 days). Your score will be the highest of your three attempts. The quiz points you receive will be equal to the percentage of your highest quiz / 10. So if your highest score on a Unit Quiz is 85%, you will earn 85 / 10 or 8.5 quiz points.

Your Unit Quiz total will be determined by summing your 13 quiz scores. If you accumulate a total grade of 100 or more on your quizzes you will have the full 30 course points for quizzes added to your final course grade total.  A total quiz grade of 80 would result in 0.80 of 30 or 24 points for quizzes in your final total.  No extra credit results from accumulating more than 100 quiz points.  Since you have the opportunity to earn more quiz points than you need, there will be no make-up quizzes if you are unable to take the quizzes for any reason.

·     Beginning and End dates for the tests are given in the table below.

·     Each quiz will be unique. Each test will have 6 or 7 questions and should take about 15 –30 minutes to complete. (We are assuming you will have completed the homework prior to taking these quizzes.)

·     A time limit of 60 minutes has been set for each Unit quiz. At the end of the 60 minute time limit, the quiz will be automatically submitted if you have not completed and submitted the quiz yourself. If you do not complete the quiz in 60 minutes, you will use up both a request and a submission.

NOTE: Each DAY starts and ends at MIDNIGHT. The time of the attempt is the TIME of FINAL submission (not the time you begin the quiz), so if you start the Kinetics quiz at 11:30pm on Jan. 28 but finish and submit the quiz after midnight it will not be accepted. This will only matter if you submit a quiz after the midnight deadline on the completion date.

REMINDER: your number of submissions WILL NOT be increased if you accidentally use them up. You are expected to use these as quizzes, not as homework, i.e., do not start the quiz until you have studied and are prepared to complete the quiz in a single sitting.
